Dear Chelmsford Resident, I am often contacted by Chelmsford residents who are concerned about bicycles and scooters being used on Chelmsford pavements. On Friday, I spotted two delivery riders flying down the High Street at Mach speed 8. It was very busy and risked a nasty accident. I stopped the riders and asked them to dismount. What are your views on cycling and e-scooters in Chelmsford? I have launched a new local survey as it would be really helpful to know people’s views. Cycling in pedestrianised areas be a problem in the city centre where the police often stop people who are riding bikes or scooters in paved areas. I have recently written to the Chief Executives of Deliveroo and Just Eat to ask them to take action on food delivery riders cycling in the pedestrianised zone. The government has been consulting on new rules for e-Scooters and e-bikes. It is currently not legal to use e-scooters outside of licenced local authority trials, such as those for hire in Chelmsford. What do you think about them? Since launching the survey yesterday, hundreds of people have already completed it. I would love to have views from all across Chelmsford. Please let me know your views so I can make sure Chelmsford’s voice is heard. You can take part in the local survey by going online here. |
