Dear Friend,

In the aftermath of Leo’s assault, he felt truly alone. He wanted to report his assailant, but he didn’t know how to navigate the process. He wanted to seek medical care for his injuries, but he was terrified. What would happen next?

It takes a village.

Many survivors have endured the aftermath of violence alone, frightened, and confused. POV’s Emergency Response Teams seek to support survivors in times of crisis and beyond.

SUPPORT OUR EMERGENCY TEAMS
POV’s Emergency Response Teams are made up of:

  • the Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART), which consists of police officers and a POV DART Advocate who have extensive knowledge on issues of domestic violence.

  • the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), a survivor-centric program designed to provide a team approach to responding to sexual assaults in our community. POV SART Advocates are partnered with local SART medical centers, law enforcement, and prosecutors.

When Leo arrived at the hospital, a POV SART Advocate was there to meet him.

Leo’s SART Advocate was by his side to support his decisions, ensure his rights were respected, answer any of his questions–even hold his hand when he needed it. With a village behind him, he felt empowered to continue the process of recovery.

“When the assault happened, I felt isolated and powerless. But POV’s compassionate advocates gave me the tools I needed to take my power back. I could not be more grateful for your support.”

– Leo

Leo’s journey is still ongoing, and POV’s Advocates are still on it with him to provide emotional support, accompaniment, ongoing empowerment, assistance with restraining order paperwork, shelter placement, and access to any survivor support services he may need.

“While survivors may feel lost at the moment they accept our supportive services, they have unconsciously taken the most important step to moving forward:  accepting help and building a foundation for safety and further self-development.”

– POV DART Advocate
