Knock knock, it’s the nuclear industry!

But here’s Avni Pravin, our Deputy Director, with a staff story that shuts the door on their misinformation.

Avni joined us in 2021 to help expand AGREE’s policy work in building decarbonization, energy efficiency, and nuclear regulatory interventions. This is what she had to say about AGREE’s work towards a 100% renewable energy grid.

“At AGREE, we advocate for healthy, clean, safe, reliable, and affordable sources of energy because we know it’s not a matter of technical feasibility - it’s a matter of making our politicians do the right thing while transforming our energy systems. AGREE is unequivocal about something that the overhyped and bloated nuclear industry doesn’t want you to know: nuclear is NOT clean, safe, affordable, or a climate-solution.

"Renewables have become far cheaper, and new nuclear takes way too long to build, wasting precious time that we don’t have. New facilities in the US report overspending by billions of dollars and delays of over a decade. Plus, experts say that our future energy grid needs to be flexible, but nuclear facilities are unable to quickly and safely ramp up and ramp down. In short, nuclear generation is simply incompatible with our goals. A 100% renewable grid is achievable if we fight for it!
