Dear John,
When Denise Ellis moved to Columbus, Georgia, in 2021, she knew she’d need a new driver’s license if she wanted to vote in the state. Unfortunately, her experience at the DMV reflects the bureaucratic and costly maze that traps so many Americans who need a current ID to vote, secure housing, apply for jobs, and so much more.
“I had been to the DMV three times already and had been turned away,” Denise explained.
“They wanted everything. Birth certificate, motor vehicle report, divorce certificate. Everything had a fee, but I didn’t have a job, so I couldn’t afford to pay those fees. If you’re a poor person, you can’t navigate through that.”
Denise is right. Getting an ID costs time and money — more than millions of Americans can spare. This has major implications at the polls in the 38 states and counting with voter ID laws, where low-income voters can’t vote if they don’t have an ID.
Your generosity can make a huge difference to voters like Denise. With so much on the line in 2024, will you make a meaningful, tax-deductible contribution toward our $200,000 goal?

VoteRiders was able to help Denise get her ID. Thanks to the support of our donors, we helped Denise track down the documentation she needed and we covered all the fees. Our staff even went with her to the DMV so she’d feel supported and confident.
It’s critical we’re able to increase our level of voter outreach and help in Georgia and in other key battleground states with strict voter ID laws ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Make your tax-deductible gift now, and help us reach our year-end goal of raising $200,000 to assist eligible voters like Denise get their IDs.

“You need an ID to live,” Denise told us when she finally had her ID in hand. “I have everything I need now.”
Whenever and wherever voters like Denise need ID assistance, VoteRiders is there to help. None of it would be possible without the support of our donors. >> [link removed]
Thanks for supporting voters like Denise and standing up for our democracy,

P.S. It can cost up to $50 to get a document like a birth certificate. We believe cost should never get in the way of voting. If you agree, make a donation today so we can keep covering fees and transportation costs associated with voters getting their ID.
