Hi Friends,

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy as we enter the holiday season. As 2023 wraps up, I want to provide you with a few highlights of what I’ve been working on for the 34th Congressional District of Texas.

Sincerely,

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez

ImageOver the past few weeks, Congress has been voting on a wide range of issues, including extending debt relief to our National Guard and Reservists, protecting small businesses, and providing better caregiver support for our veterans.

On December 11, 2023, H.R. 5378, the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act passed the House with bipartisan support. This included my legislation, H.R. 1613, the Drug Price Transparency in Medicaid Act, which will end the harmful and greedy tactics that Pharmacy Benefit Managers use to raise the cost of prescription drugs. These middlemen pass these high costs from small mom-and-pop pharmacies down to patients and their families. South Texans should not have to decide between buying life-saving medicine and putting food on the table.

I was also proud to vote in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2024. This critical piece of legislation authorizes $874.2 billion in discretionary spending to support our national defense and hardworking military personnel. Congress has included a well-deserved 5.2 percent pay raise for our servicemembers at Naval Air Station Kingsville and across the globe, as well as language streamlining the permitting process for international bridges in the Valley and enacting, H.R. 4383, Military Families Mental Health Services Act, which makes mental health services more accessible and affordable for family members of active-duty personnel.
