Voter suppression is no joke, friend, particularly in a battleground state like Ohio, where a few thousand votes could decide an election.
When I was Ohio's secretary of state, I did everything I could to make it easier for people to exercise their right to vote and participate in our democracy. One year, I even worked with McDonald's to print voter registration forms on tray liners – some may have come back ketchup-stained, but my office was happy to accept them.
Unfortunately, politicians in Columbus have moved in the wrong direction since then by making it harder for Ohioans to vote. Earlier this year, our secretary of state (and one of my GOP opponents in this Senate race) quietly purged thousands of people from the voter rolls just a few weeks before Election Day.
With experts saying Senate control could be decided here, it's more important than ever that we have a strong voter outreach program. But I'm running a grassroots program, which means funding initiatives like this depends on folks like you chipping in what you can, when you can.
So please, will you give $5 right now to help us raise the resources we need to start our voter outreach programs early, win in Ohio, and keep the Senate blue? We need to raise $25,000 by midnight tonight, and I can't get there without your help.
