In spite of all the evidence that demonstrates that nonhuman animals are autonomous beings who deserve respect and dignity, the legal status quo sees them as “things” that can be exploited by humans. It’s this outdated reasoning that leaves our elephant clients to suffer within the confines of zoos, circuses, and roadside attractions. It’s an injustice—and we’re fighting to change it.
Our movement to secure legal rights for nonhuman animals gained so much momentum this year alone. We reached thousands of new people with the truth about how animals suffer in captivity, gathered experts from across the world to support our groundbreaking cases to free elephants and chimpanzees from imprisonment, and saw the passage of the first animal rights legislation with Ojai, California’s elephant rights bill. The tides are changing, and a just future for animals is on the horizon.
This year, we accomplished things that once seemed impossible given the legal status quo. In 2024—with you on our side—we’ll make even more progress for animals. Today, we’re announcing our end-of-year online fundraising goal to make that happen: $40,000.
