That's why I wanted you to be one of the first to see our newly released 2020 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures report. From the latest numbers on prevalence and risks, to tools for diagnosis and advancing research, this annual report is filled with the most current data on Alzheimer's and how it impacts our loved ones, communities and health care systems. The most recent numbers make it even more critical that we end this devastating disease: In 2019, more than 16 million caregivers provided an estimated 18.6 billion hours of unpaid care, a contribution to the nation valued at more than $244 billion — an increase of $10 billion compared to last year. The total lifetime cost of care for someone with dementia was estimated at $357,297 in 2019 dollars. In 2020, the total national cost of caring for people with Alzheimer's and other dementia is projected to reach $305 billion. You can also see facts and figures specific to your state. We know that behind the numbers there are individuals affected by this disease, which is why we are fully committed to ending Alzheimer's.
