Dear friend,
Thank you for supporting our vital work this year and reading our monthly updates. I hope you find them useful and that our work provides you with ideas, information and inspiration.
It’s been an incredibly busy year for the Centre. In 2023, we have led the way in creating the blueprint for A Mentally Healthier Nation, setting out on behalf of 35 organisations what a cross-government mental health plan could look like, and in exploring long-term solutions for better mental health for all through our Festival of Ideas.
Our research and evaluation has provided invaluable evidence about the value of public mental health work in local areas through our report Made in Communities, about intergenerational experiences of racism within families in A Constant Battle, and about the mental health of prisoners in England. We’ve brought inequalities and injustices to light with clear and practical policy solutions. And we’ll have lots more evidence to share next year.
This year we have continued to platform voices of experience to challenge mental health inequalities. From our work with Young Changemakers who are leading social action projects to address racism and its impacts on mental health to our lively podcast series, videos and blogs, we want to support campaigns to bring equity and justice to mental health.
We’re also busy supporting networks to boost mental health equality. We’re proud hosts of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition and the Equally Well colllaborative. Our updated Mentally Healthier Councils Network is supporting local government leadership for better mental health, and from January we’ll be launching a new network for integrated care system mental health leaders.
There’s so much more for us to do. We know that people’s mental health is under strain after the pandemic and amid the cost of living crisis. The threat from the climate crisis and international conflict to people’s mental health is growing. And we know that mental health services are working hard to meet rising levels of need, but need to change to provide timely, equitable and effective care to all who need them.
Please help us to make a difference in 2024 and beyond. Your donations to our essential work will help us to challenge inequality and injustice. Every donation helps us to advocate for mental health equality and make the case for change.
