Dear Friend,
December is a time when many families travel far and wide to be with those who hold a special place in their hearts. But it can also be a time when we might begin to notice changes in our loved ones. It may be hard to distinguish between age-related changes and Alzheimer's disease or another dementia, but memory loss that disrupts daily life isn't a typical part of aging.
Alzheimer's doesn't take a holiday break, so neither can we. The threat Alzheimer's poses is year-round, nationwide and across the globe. We must always be on the lookout for warning signs, fighting this disease even in this merriest of seasons.
That's why this is the perfect time for our extraordinary NEW Holiday 3X Match. I'm proud to share the JTMF Foundation has stepped forward with a truly tremendous but time-sensitive offer and has pledged to triple-match any gift you can make — up to a total of $250,000 — to support local care and support programs and expand our reach to families in rural communities. This offer, made in honor of loved ones the trustees have lost to Alzheimer's, only lasts until December 26. Please don't wait — make your holiday gift today while it can have TRIPLE THE IMPACT in our fight to end this disease.
I couldn't be more thankful for the generosity of our caring community. The giving spirit of our community makes it possible for us to bring so much help and hope to families impacted by Alzheimer's — at all times of the year.
I'm hopeful that, together, we can make the most of this incredible Holiday 3X Match. Please make a first gift today, when it can go 3X as far to help provide crucial early detection education while we continue to push promising research forward and deliver essential care and support to everyone who needs it.
One of the first steps toward early detection is knowing what to look for. If you experience any of these Alzheimer's warning signs — or see them in a loved one — don't wait. Reach out to your doctor immediately.
Do You Know the Warning Signs of Alzheimer's?
- Memory loss that disrupts daily life — such as difficulty remembering recently learned information.
- Challenges in planning or solving problems — such as struggling with tasks that involve working with numbers, following a familiar recipe or paying bills.
- Difficulty completing familiar tasks — such as having trouble driving to a familiar location, organizing a grocery list or recalling the rules of a favorite game.
- Confusion with time or place — such as losing track of dates, seasons or the passage of time.
- Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships — such as difficulty with balance or reading, judging distances and determining color or contrast.
- Problems with words in speaking or writing — such as struggling with vocabulary, having trouble naming a familiar object or using the wrong name.
- Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps — such as placing items in unusual places or being unable to retrace steps to find items again.
- Decreased or poor judgment — such as making ill-considered decisions when dealing with money or personal hygiene.
- Withdrawal from work or social activities — such as avoiding hobbies, social activities or other engagements.
- Changes in mood and personality — such as becoming easily confused, suspicious, depressed, fearful or anxious when out of their comfort zone.
There's never a good time to notice these signs. Whether they happen during the holidays or at a different time of year, changes in a loved one can bring about feelings of concern, confusion and fear. That's why we're always here to answer questions, offer support and make sure no one ever has to go through these moments alone.
Your support enables us to help families impacted by Alzheimer's find the strength and resources they need to fight against this devastating disease — before, during and after a diagnosis. And today, your gift can make TRIPLE the impact.
Your holiday gift can go 3X as far to make sure we're always here for families facing Alzheimer's: |
