Editorial Letter from Husein Yatabarry

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It’s been a while since our last update, and what a busy few months it has been at the Muslim Community Network! As we wind down the year and look towards 2024, we are filled with gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead.

Key Highlights:

  1. Dynamic Programs in Action: Our Hate Crime Prevention and Diversity Education programs have been making significant strides, actively fostering a more inclusive and understanding community. Meanwhile, our Youth and Women's programs are in full swing, empowering the next generation of Muslim leaders in the United States.

  2. Advocacy Efforts: We've been tirelessly working on promoting Res476 for religious diversity in K-12 schools, a crucial step towards ensuring inclusive education for all. Additionally, our efforts with the NYC City Council for the Ceasefire Resolution have been a major focus, reflecting our commitment to peace and harmony.

  3. MCN's 21st Anniversary Gala: After a postponement this fall, we are thrilled to announce the new date for our 21st Anniversary Gala - February 11th, 2024. This event is not just a celebration of MCN's journey but a tribute to our resilience and unity as a community. Our MC for the evening, the talented Omar Regan, will ensure a night filled with laughter and joy.

  4. Honoring Our Community: The gala will also be a moment to honor exceptional individuals whose contributions embody the spirit of our community. These honorees are beacons of positivity, constantly reshaping narratives and making a difference every day.

  5. Solidarity with Palestine: We continue to stand firmly with our brothers and sisters in Palestine, dedicating our efforts to support them in every way possible. The gala will also include a time for remembrance and honor for all the lives lost, reinforcing our commitment to peace and justice.

Join Us in Celebration:

This gala is more than just an event; it’s a reflection of our journey, our struggles, and our triumphs. Tickets are still available, and we encourage you to be a part of this memorable night. Let’s come together to celebrate our collective journey and the promising future that lies ahead.

As we close out the calendar year, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each one of you for being an integral part of the MCN family. Your support, participation, and enthusiasm are what drive us forward.

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and a prosperous New Year!

Community Service
MCN Serves - Soup Kitchen
At the heart of community collaboration, we took a significant step in fostering interfaith unity. Partnering with the Church of Holy Trinity, we proudly distributed over 100 meals to those in need. This initiative not only filled bellies but also bridged hearts, showcasing the profound impact of interfaith solidarity in action. We believe that such gestures of unity are the building blocks for a more harmonious society.
Advocacy
UN Civil Society Convening to address issues impacting our civil societies with President of the General Assembly and plan for the Summit for the Future. MCN raised the issue of Palestine and ensuring that those suffering in Palestine, Congo, Sudan, Ughyrs in China and other countries are centered during these consultations.

Hate Crime Prevention: Since October 7th, our Hate Crime Prevention Workshops have become a beacon of hope and resilience in the Muslim community, responding proactively to increasing negativity. These workshops, captured in these powerful photos, reflect our commitment to education, empowerment, and unity in the face of adversity. Together, we stand strong, equipped with knowledge and solidarity to combat hate and foster a safer, more inclusive community.

Community Education

Immigrant Rights Workshop
We conducted several Know Your Rights Workshops across the city, equipping our community members with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities as New Yorkers and residents of this nation. In a society where the shadows of racism and bias still linger, understanding our inherent rights and protective measures against prejudice and violence is paramount.
