Assault weapons have no place in our communities, friend. They have been used for some of the most heinous massacres in our nation’s history because they are designed for carnage.

After a gunman with an assault weapon killed seven people and injured 48 others in Highland Park, IL, last Fourth of July, the state took critical action to ban deadly weapons of war. Brady helped Illinois become the tenth state to ban assault weapons, making millions of people safer.

The City of Naperville, IL, took its own action to protect its community against being the next to make headlines: The City banned the commercial sale of assault weapons, making a proactive move to save lives instead of waiting for tragedy. 

Yet, in the face of lifesaving progress in Illinois, the gun lobby made a characteristically egregious move, immediately challenging first the ban on commercial sales of assault weapons in Naperville, IL, and then the assault weapons ban in the State – but Brady was ready for them.

Brady is representing the City of Naperville, IL, as it defends its ban on assault weapons against the gun lobby’s dangerous interpretation of the Second Amendment. The gun lobby has tried twice to make an emergency request to the Supreme Court to end the assault weapons bans – but now, for the second time, the Court has denied this request without a noted dissent from any of the Justices.

That's right, friend, the Supreme Court blocked the gun lobby’s deadly request to lift the ban on assault weapons in Illinois and in Naperville. This is a huge victory, but it's also not the end of our fight. Will you show your support for this move and add your name to Brady’s petition to ban assault weapons?

Despite the majority of Americans supporting a ban on weapons of war, despite the proven lifesaving power of an assault weapons ban, the gun lobby continues to fight against bans both nationally and in states. But the Brady legal team won’t let the gun lobby get away with undermining American safety. This case will now go back to district court where our team will continue fighting tirelessly to defend Naperville’s right to protect its community.
