Red-y for the Future

Earlier this year, you joined us in welcoming Pavitra—the first red panda cub born at the San Diego Zoo in nearly two decades. This little one is a crucial addition to the global population of her endangered species. CODE RED >

Resilience in Maui

At the Maui Bird Conservation Center, teams took quick action to protect the critically endangered birds in our care during August’s devastating wildfires. Because of their heroic efforts, all team members and birds were unharmed. MAUI STRONG >

Conservation at Home

From the mountains to the desert and along the coastline, the diverse ecosystems of Southern California are home to a wide range of endangered species. With your support, we’re reestablishing sustainable populations of endangered mountain yellow-legged frog, desert tortoise, and Torrey pine. OUR OWN BACKYARD >

Two of a kind

Ollie, the world’s second successfully cloned Przewalski’s horse, arrived at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park this year. He’s genetically a twin to Kurt, the first Przewalski’s horse clone, and together they’ll bring back key genetic diversity to this endangered species. HISTORIC HOOFPRINTS >

Perfectly Paired

Together we celebrated the birth of two sets of siblings—Amur leopards at the Zoo and Sumatran tigers at the Safari Park. With only a few hundred of these critically endangered big cats remaining in native habitats, these four cubs are key to global conservation efforts, and they remind us there is always hope for the future. CUB-SESSED >

Safeguarding Biodiversity

For nearly 50 years, we’ve been preserving invaluable genetic material to transform conservation and create hope for the future. This year we partnered with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to launch the first-of-its-kind Center for Species Survival: Biodiversity Banking. PRESERVING HOPE >

Soaring Through 40 Years

The California Condor Recovery Program hit a landmark anniversary this year as we celebrated 40 years of collaborative and cutting-edge conservation work to give this local species a second chance. SAVING CONDORS >

A new kind of atlas

A colossal year for elephants! We announced our partnership with Illumina to create an elephant genomic atlas across Africa. Innovative solutions like these show us what’s possible when we come together for conservation. GENTLE GIANTS >
