The Supreme Court recently announced they'll hear a case on whether to restrict access to mifepristone — an FDA-approved medication that abortion patients have used for decades.
Before I continue, a few important things to make clear: Mifepristone is safe — and mifepristone is still legal in 37 states right now.
This will be the biggest abortion case to be decided by the Supreme Court since Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization — the case that overturned Roe v. Wade.
Since then, states have tried to make it extremely difficult to access this medication — or have banned it altogether. Anti-abortion extremists’ next crusade is to ban mifepristone nationwide.
So my colleague Tammy Baldwin and I introduced a resolution in the Senate expressing support for mifepristone. The resolution affirms Congress’ stance that we trust the FDA to determine the safety and efficacy of drugs — not politically motivated institutions, politicians, or judges. So far, this resolution has the support of 40 senators, organizations like Planned Parenthood and the Center for Reproductive Rights, and zero Republicans.
I’m going to continue to pull every lever I can to protect abortion access in our country. If you’re able to, please donate $28 or anything you can to support our pro-abortion rights campaign so we can continue to fight back against extremists trying to take away our freedoms. |
