Democrats have splurged over a million dollars for political ads on Elon Musk's social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), despite a mass exodus of advertisers over concerns about the promotion of antisemitic and hateful content.
Even representative Adam Schiff, who has publicly criticized Musk's management of X, has spent over $74,000 behind the scenes on the platform. By continuing to advertise on X, Schiff is directly supporting a platform that he has called out for becoming a breeding ground of divisive and harmful rhetoric.
Under Musk's rule, X has seen a significant increase in content that promotes bigotry and spreads falsehoods. This includes a rise in antisemitic conspiracy theories and an influx of extreme right-wing voices that spew hate speech and spread misinformation about election results.
That’s exactly why President Biden's campaign has not used X for political ads, recognizing the platform's escalating hostility and misalignment with Democratic principles.
It's time to align our actions with our words by committing to battle the spread of hate and misinformation. Tell Democratic candidates to stop spending money on Elon Musk’s fascist hate machine.
Every dollar Democrats spend on X is a dollar supporting a platform that's becoming synonymous with antisemitism, hate speech, and disinformation. By continuing their financial support, Democrats are endorsing a platform that provides a megaphone to divisive and harmful figures.
In fact, the platform just reinstated Sandy Hook conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, which should heighten the urgency for Democrats to reassess their advertising strategies.
Should Democrats really run ads that might place their content on the same stage as a man who flagrantly peddled the Sandy Hook massacre as a hoax, causing untold pain to grieving families?
It's one thing to use the platform for its outreach capabilities, it's another to financially bolster it, especially when it disregards the principles of decency and truth. By advertising on X, Democratic candidates are actively funding a platform that undercuts the very fabric of our democratic society and we must hold them accountable.
