John,
Justice Democrats-endorsed Rep. Ilhan Omar is currently facing three opponents for her seat in next August’s Democratic primary, and they’re all vying for AIPAC’s support:
A New York Times article describes a pre-primary primary of sorts, with each of these candidates competing for a windfall of GOP mega-donor cash from AIPAC, its super PAC, and other anti-Palestine groups who seek to unseat Ilhan from Congress for her pro-peace stance and courage to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Ilhan is one of AIPAC’s top targets, and they’ve made it clear they plan on spending upward of $100 million — more than ever before — to defeat progressive incumbents like her in 2024’s primary elections.
In 2022, Ilhan won by a margin of less than 2,500 votes against repeat challenger Don Samuels, who’s willing to throw human rights for Palestinians out the window in exchange for AIPAC’s war chest behind him.
But as Ilhan said, “Organized people beat organized money.”
Our movement cannot afford to lose such an unapologetic champion for bold, progressive change and human rights in Congress. Let’s do everything in our power over these next eight months to re-elect Ilhan.
