Hello,

In this week’s edition, I announce my new tour, I explain how to make friends and maintain social relationships, and I launch a new article. Then, I talk with Aaron Stark, a public speaker and mental health advocate known for his Ted Talk, "I was almost a school shooter." From the archives, I revisit a conversation about the space between heaven and earth.

Advice

How To Create Social Connections And Friendships

To individuals with high intelligence but low extraversion and agreeableness who are interested in making and maintaining social connections and friendships, I would say, make a plan, and spend time on it weekly. Go to meetups. Do whatever you have to do to meet people. Take a course. Strike up a conversation. Ask questions, and listen. That is particularly good if you are low in agreeableness.

People really like to be listened to, though they hardly ever get to be. You do not want to pester them with too many questions, but listening to people and asking them questions can go a long way. They are so happy when you do it that they are likely to open themselves up to you very rapidly. Get them talking, and when they say something you do not quite catch or understand, then ask them about it. That can help you move forward — but put some time into it.

You should go out at least once a week. Find some social places you can go to regularly, and say hello to the people who own and run a place. Eventually you will be a regular, and you will meet people by doing that. It might take you two or three years to get accustomed to it, but I have seen people go from being afraid to have a conversation with a friend in a coffee shop to being a standup comedian. You can move yourself forward if you make a long-term plan.

Pro-Hamas Protesters Are Sanctimonious Psychopaths

We are now exposed to the truly appalling spectacle of widespread demonstrations across the West supporting – explicitly or implicitly – the terrorists of Hamas. Some of the most shocking scenes unfolded in London, a city often held up as a beacon of immigration-fueled multiculturalism – one that has now seemingly lost its shine.

The Power Of Writing And The Path To Critical Thinking

Why should you write? You need to learn to think. Thinking makes you act effectively in the world. Thinking makes you win the battles you undertake, and those could be battles for good. If you can think, speak, and write, you are absolutely deadly. Nothing can get in your way. That is why you learn to write. It is the most powerful weapon you could possibly provide someone with.

Anatomy Of An (Almost) School Shooter | Aaron Stark | EP 405

In this episode, I sit down with public speaker and mental health advocate Aaron Stark. You might recognize Aaron's name from his deeply impactful TED Talk, “I was almost a school shooter.” We discuss the all-too-real result of deep parental trauma, the psychology of abuse that shapes self loathing and self harm, and the real, tangible act of kindness that saved lives.

Between Heaven And Earth

In this portion of my conversation with Matthieu Pageau, we discuss the idea of heaven joining earth and the possibility of a ladder connecting the two. Such a ladder connects the abstract and the concrete, the infinite and the finite, and the psychological and the material. It is also a structure with intermediary levels.
