A message to our JCC community from Brian D. Siegel

** From the Desk of Brian D. Siegel,
------------------------------------------------------------
At the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit, the safety and well-being of our members, students, patrons, guests and employees is our highest priority.

Dear friends and JCC Members:

The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and staff leadership team have made the difficult decision to close all JCC operations at the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Building including the Pitt Child Development Center and the Florine Mark Sports and Fitness Complex (Fitness) until March 29th.

This does not apply to tenant operations which may continue at their discretion in coordination with JCC leadership. We are doing so based on recommendations from local and national health organizations, and because we want to deepen the efforts to positively contribute and model proactive safety measures for our community. Jewish tradition teaches us the importance of feeling responsible for one another – Kol Israel arevim zeh bazeh.

Protecting the health and safety of our families and community members, along with fulfilling our responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19 is of the utmost importance. This is a difficult decision, as we know the important role that the JCC plays in your lives. We are a special place where people of all ages and backgrounds gather, connect with one another, and improve their mental and physical wellness. It is a place where all people are welcomed, embraced, and cared for. That remains our mission.

In the coming days, we will be working to find creative online and virtual ways to keep connecting with our members to continue to support your social, educational and wellness needs.

We are also working hard to take care of our amazing JCC staff, the heart and soul of the Center in this challenging and uncertain time. We will do all we can do to provide them with support, and make it possible for them to be back in their positions as soon as possible. We greatly appreciate your commitment to the JCC and never take it for granted. As we determine next steps beyond our initial two week time frame, we will continue to stay in touch and keep you informed.

Additional information or changes will be sent out through our various communication channels. Follow us on facebook ([link removed]) , visit our website ([link removed]) and check your email for the latest information.

Your patience is appreciated while we work to prioritize your health and safety, and the health and safety of our extended community. We will continue to re-evaluate operations on an ongoing basis as needed and strategically plan for how to best provide programs and services during the new “normal”.

Please continue to focus on the health and wellness for you and your family. Stay connected to community as best you can. Reach out to those who are alone and afraid and without social support. Provide reassurance and love to family and friends.

Thank you for being a vital part of our vibrant community.

Together we will overcome.

Sincerely,

Mark Rubenfire
President of the Board of Directors

About the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit
Since our establishment in 1926, the JCC has played a central role in the physical, social, spiritual and educational well-being of the Jewish and general community of Metropolitan Detroit. Located in West Bloomfield, our facility offers year-round programming for families, children, teens and adults. We also feature a fitness center, three swimming pools, a summer day camp, a child development center, an inline hockey center, an interactive children’s museum and an art gallery – to name a few!

We continue to expand and diversify our programs, but our goals have remained the same since our founding: to provide the finest programming, events and services, and to guarantee that our JCC is place of Jewish values where everyone is welcome regardless of age, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, ability or financial status.
