Dear Reader,

Let's talk the college application (ad)venture!

We can’t claim to know which college will be the best fit for every high school senior but, knowing that these students are overwhelmed and uncertain about where they might "fit," we built a tool to help those navigating and evaluating the 3,000+ institutions here in the U.S.

Thus was born The College Welcome Guide.

Unlike any other guide out there, this innovative interactive tool helps students assess which colleges across the U.S. offer the services that might make for a more welcoming campus environment. Students can explore (by state or by institution) data on things such as hate crimes, anti-LGBTQ legislation, state abortion laws and number of students who identify as Black, rural, military veterans, LGBTQ or as being from other backgrounds, and much more.

As a dedicated reader of The Hechinger Report, you know our work. You read our stories, which help explain and create an understanding of educational issues that may seem complicated or intractable. You subscribe to our newsletters, which dig into early childhood, higher ed, education research and new models of teaching and learning. And you value the underrepresented voices we spotlight in our op-eds.
