WHAT'S HAPPENING AT HU

Earlier this month, members of our Peacebuilding and Public Engagement portfolio teams had the opportunity to attend the #ShiftThePower summit in Bogotá, Colombia. This year we worked with our partners at Peace Direct and Robert Bosch Stiftung to support the attendance of a contingent of peacebuilders from around the world.
With their participation, and with the conference location in Bogotá, the importance of peacebuilding was elevated as part of the equation toward building a global civil society and funding system that centers equity, justice and flourishing lives for all.

Humanity United Senior Manager, Forced Labor & Human Trafficking Mahendra Pandey represented HU at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, speaking to the unique vulnerabilities of migrants to exploitation. Mahendra has been featured in Forbes Australia in an article about WalkFree’s work with survivors and their communities.

Humanity United, in collaboration with the Sudanese American Community Development Organization (SACDO), will be sharing perspectives and personal accounts from members of the Sudanese community in a new blog series. We hope that the stories we share will provide context for those new to this conflict, offer a Sudanese lens on the international community’s response, highlight the roles that civilians and civil society groups are now playing and provide greater insight through personal accounts. We hope that these stories create the space and awareness needed to ensure that Sudanese people receive and realize lasting peace. Read these perspectives on our blog.

Leslie Wingender, Director, Peacebuilding, was a guest at a Kroc Institute panel discussion on the progress, challenges, and opportunities that lie ahead in the journey to establish a lasting and sustainable peace in Colombia. More information and video of the event is available here.
