Today marks the four year anniversary of former white supremacist-in-chief Donald Trump’s first impeachment. He was impeached for his abuse of power and for soliciting foreign interference in our elections. Despite all this, he is the leading Republican candidate for President by a longshot.

This is the Republican party we are dealing with: putting its most extremist and bigoted leaders in the spotlight. Cori Bush has constantly called out the GOP for its rhetoric and legislation which have harmed countless Black and brown communities, LGBTQ+ communities, and working class people. She’s been fearless in combating systemic racism since she first took office.

Today mark’s Trump’s first impeachment, but a little over a year later, he was impeached yet again for inciting the far-right insurrection on January 6th, 2021. Lest we forget: Donald Trump himself engaged in the January 6th insurrection when he incited white supremacist attacks and an attempted coup that left five people dead and hundreds of people injured.

After sending the mob to the Capitol and urging them to “fight like hell,” for hours Trump did nothing to stop them as they assaulted police officers and dragged them into the crowd to attack them with their own tasers and the sharpened ends of flagpoles.

We need strong leaders who will push back against Trump and MAGA Republicans’ racist, hateful attacks on our democracy and attempts to overthrow our government. We must continue building momentum to dismantle white supremacy and defend our democracy.

Cori is doing that and that’s why far-right groups and billionaire-funded super PACs are trying to unseat her. They don’t want our movement’s vision of a more equitable, just future to come to fruition. But as we’ve seen time and time again, our people power has and will continue to to defeat the oligarchs and far-right extremists.
