That’s why, 13 years ago, I partnered with UNICEF USA to create the K.I.N.D. (Kids in Need of Desks) Fund to provide that essential piece of classroom equipment.
We started with 30 desks. Since then, we’ve provided over 330,000 school desks, reaching more than 1.1 million children in Malawi. We’ve also added a scholarship program for girls to attend public high school, which isn’t free in Malawi and has lower graduation rates for girls in comparison to boys.
Still, more than half of all school children in Malawi do not have a desk or a chair. Instead, they attend class by sitting on the ground, making it difficult to focus, learn and grow. In order to reach every child, we need your ongoing support.
