Hey John,
Lemme introduce you to Ian and Elijah – two young men from right here in the Bronx that are headed to play college basketball!
Me and two future basketball stars!
Ian and Elijah signed letters of intent to attend the University of North Carolina and Syracuse University, respectively. Ian is already projected to be an NBA lottery pick, and I’m sure Elijah will be right there with him.
These young men are the next generation of college athletes – and I’m working to make sure that they have the right to organize. Sign on to support the College Athlete Right to Organize Act! ✊🏿
All too often, colleges and universities treat their athletes as sources of revenue instead of the skilled, disciplined, deserving young people they are!
The fact that college athletes lack collective bargaining rights – including ownership of their own image – is a labor and civil rights issue.
That’s why I just reintroduced the College Athlete Right to Organize Act along with Senators Bernie Sanders, Chris Murphy, and Elizabeth Warren. It’s the first step to ensuring college athletes are able to advocate for rights, protections, and compensation commensurate with the value they provide.
College athletics are a billion dollar industry, and it’s time to treat those who make it run with the respect, rights, and pay they deserve. Sign on to support the College Athlete Right to Organize Act!👇🏿
Peace and love,
Jamaal
