John,
In mid-November, Congress narrowly avoided a government shutdown by passing a resolution missing something very important – it didn’t include aid for low-income parents, children, and infants.
Congress failed to fully fund the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). This is a nutrition program aiding those at the most critical life — birth through the age 5. Without additional aid, states nationwide will have to deny nutrition assistance to the most vulnerable.
Join us and sign on now to demand that Congress fund WIC at the next opportunity and continue providing vital assistance to parents and children in need.
WIC is life-changing. It reduces preterm births, low birth weight and infant mortality, gives kids a fair chance, and is an extremely cost-effective investment – every $1 spent on WIC results in a savings of $2.48 in healthcare costs.
While costs of food, housing, child care, and other basic needs all continue to rise, rates of food insecurity and child hunger do too. WIC faces a funding shortfall for the first time in decades, losing access to this vital aid will disproportionately impact Black and Latino families.
Sign the petition: Demand Congress fund WIC and continue the vital program for parents and children.
Thank you,
Democratic Values
