Hi John,
What’s a holiday season without a Scrooge? You know the type… greedy, selfish, uncaring…
When it comes to care, we have our own Scrooges. Every day, we’re fighting against people in power who want to take funds away from our already-struggling care system and hurt millions of working families.
We have a brand new 2024 plan to stop care scrooges from greedily damaging our care system and make change for the better, but we can’t do it without you. Your $20.00 donation powers our work. [[link removed]]
Here are some of the Care Scrooges we’ve been up against this year. 💪
Private equity is buying out nursing homes, care facilities, home health agencies & hospices. This kind of privatization ends in worse care, higher costs, and worse still, higher mortality rates. Our care is not a revenue stream for greedy corporations! Our aging and disabled loved ones deserve better, we deserve care that works for all of us – we won’t stop fighting till we get it.
Congress ignored the child care cliff. When pandemic funding expired at the end of September, we went off the child care cliff – which could lead to 3.2 million kids losing access to child care and 70,000 child care programs being forced to close. We’re already starting to see those effects. We’re currently working with the White House and Congress to pass emergency funding to fill the funding gap and end this crisis.
The U.S. STILL doesn’t have guaranteed paid leave for all, despite being one of the world’s richest countries. For context, the U.S. is part of an association of 38 countries that make up 80% of world trade and investment – and every other country has paid leave. It’s frankly embarrassing the U.S. doesn’t have paid time off for its workers. Paid leave gives us the time we need to care for ourselves and those we love. It’s a win-win for businesses and workers alike. We need paid leave for all – full stop.
We’ll continue fighting back against Care Scrooges to create a better care system for all of us, but we can only do it with your support, John. Please, don’t hesitate to make a $20.00 donation today.
