Jack, you may have noticed that some of your go-to news outlets are now using paywalls to access their content. With the steep decline in advertising revenue, many news outlets need to find some way to bring in more revenue in order to keep operating and survive.

The use of paywalls and subscriptions will greatly affect who can and cannot access news and information. As Rodney Benson, chair of NYU's Department of Media, Culture, and Communication puts it: "Obviously, long-term, this is going to have tremendously negative civic effects… We're already experiencing those effects."

Daily Kos believes very strongly that everyone, no matter their ability to pay, should have free access to our news content and effective actions. So instead of limiting access with a paywall, we asked the Daily Kos community for help: To donate what they can to support our work and make sure others will always be able to have access to the news.

Help make sure that Daily Kos can remain accessible to everyone, no matter their ability to pay. Donate $5 or any amount that is meaningful to you to support our work.
