Hi John,
I’m no stranger to working across the aisle to get things accomplished. Since I was first elected, I’ve had 14 bills signed into law — eight under President Biden over the last two years! But I’ll be honest, it will be a lot tougher to get our priorities across the finish line with the gavel in Mike Johnson’s hand.
There’s so much we can accomplish when we work together, and one of my top priorities is passing my Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act to save moms’ lives.
That’s why my colleagues and I recently wrote a letter urging the Biden-Harris administration to include policy priorities of the Black Maternal Health Caucus and fully fund the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act in the president’s budget.
The United States has the worst maternal mortality rate in the developed world. This rate is only rising, and it’s driven by far higher mortality rates among Black mothers and birthing people of color.
Today, Black women are three to four times more likely than white women to die from pregnancy-related complications. These alarming statistics are an urgent call to action that we have a responsibility to answer.
I am dedicated to addressing this public health crisis no matter what it takes — from working in our community in IL-14 to encouraging President Biden to take action. My Momnibus package will finally reverse the rising trend of maternal mortality, save the lives of moms, and close racial and ethnic disparities in maternal health outcomes.
Too many families have lost mothers, daughters, and sisters to our nation’s maternal health crisis — and my Momnibus package is the solution. Moms can’t wait, and it’s time for Congress to step up and pass it now.
If you agree, add your name to my petition calling on Congress to pass the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act right away.
Thanks for taking the time to sign on today. Together, I know we can continue to bring forward meaningful change on this critical issue.
Lauren
