Dear Georgian,

Welcome home to the 75th Fighter Squadron from Moody AFB! They recently returned home from an overseas deployment, just in time to celebrate the holidays with their families. Welcome home, and thank you for a job well done!

Last week, our oldest fighting force, the National Guard, celebrated their 387th birthday!

Their roots can be traced back to the first militia regiments in Massachusetts in 1636.
Since their founding, they have embodied the civilian soldier mentality and have taken a significant role in U.S. national security.

Our district is home to many talented student-athletes, with several of our high school football teams from GA-08 winning state championships this week!

I congratulate Coffee and Perry High Schools for winning the GHSA 5A and 4A state championship titles. Additionally, I commend First Presbyterian Day School and Valwood for their achievements in winning the GIAA 4A and 3A state championships. Your dedication and commitment, both on and off the field, bring immense pride to the Eighth District!

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Sincerely,

Starting the Formal Impeachment Process Against President Joe Biden

On Wednesday, the House voted to formalize the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. I supported this resolution that sets forth specific procedures regarding the impeachment inquiry, formalizes the impeachment inquiry, helps to remove legal ambiguity, and ensures the American people will receive the answers they deserve.

The Biden family received millions of dollars from our adversaries, and it is our responsibility in Congress to investigate whether the President was involved or not.

Leading a Bipartisan Panel Discussion About the Great Power Competition in Africa

Last week, I led a bipartisan panel about the great power competition in Africa as part of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence's Beyond the SCIF Series at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C.

Africa has a land mass three times the size of the U.S. and has a population of 1.4 billion people. By 2050, the United Nations forecasts Africa's population to reach nearly 2.5 billion people, equating to 25 percent of the world's population.

Africa plays a critical role in global stability, and the United States benefits from stability in Africa. However, some countries, such as Russia and China, actively engage in foreign influence and look to create and exploit instability in Africa for their political or economic benefits.

This leads to food instability, poverty, and lawlessness, and allows for terrorist organizations and other hostile actors to prosper.

In our discussion yesterday, our panelists detailed the challenges the region faces and the importance of ensuring that there are African-led solutions to those challenges.

Passing the NDAA Conference Report

The House also passed the Conference Report to Accompany the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with my support.

Georgia has nine military installations that rely on the NDAA to support their critical missions. Included in the NDAA are over a dozen amendments that I sponsored with key wins for our country, such as prohibiting the use of DOD funds for purchasing battery technology from Communist China, elevating the position of Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau from the Rank of Lieutenant General to General, and increasing the accession bonus for military nurses to be competitive with the private sector.

I look forward to the President signing the FY24 NDAA into law.

Agri-Pulse | Rep. Austin Scott calls for increased reference prices

"'As the farm bill debate approaches 2024, a key House Agriculture Committee member is calling for increasing the reference prices that can trigger payments to farmers under the Price Loss Coverage program

Rep. Austin Scott, R-Ga., says on this week's Agri-Pulse Newsmakers that 'the current reference price for the majority of our commodities does not reflect the increased cost of farming today.'

Farmers with eligible acreage receive PLC payments when the average annual market price for a commodity falls below the commodity's reference price."

Just the NewsGeorgia Rep. Scott says FISA reform bill would reduce FBI personnel authorized to do queries by 90%

"Congressman Austin Scott, R-Ga., said that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) reform bill he is getting behind in the House would shrink the amount of FBI personnel authorized to approve U.S. person queries by 90%.

'There are protections for U.S. citizens in there,' Scott said on the 'John Solomon Reports' podcast. 'But it still gives our law enforcement agencies the tools they need to do their job at the speed that they need to do if they're trying to stop a terrorist attack inside the United States.'"
