Dear Friend, Last week, I attended an endorsement meeting with the Teamsters Union in Washington D.C. Teamsters President Sean O’Brien directed the questioning, surrounded by rank-and-file union members from all over the country. |
The Teamsters endorsed President Biden in 2020, but have made clear that their endorsement is not to be taken for granted in 2024. They have been meeting with all of the presidential candidates, and I was honored to have the chance to participate. Organized labor is the most important tool we have outside the government for pushing back against overreach by corporate forces. Their endorsement would be a tremendous boon for any campaign, and my administration would be a tremendous boon to organized labor.
A third of America’s workers live on less than $15 an hour, and half of them cannot find a place to live. When President Biden was campaigning in 2020, he made raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour a signature part of his agenda. He did raise the pay of federal workers to $15 an hour, but when it came to extending that into the COVID relief bill, he was stopped by the parliamentarian. However, the parliamentarian has no political power, and the President could have simply chosen to remove her. I would have.
From guaranteeing a living wage to passing the PRO Act to bolstering the National Labor Relations Board, I would be a President who makes bettering the living conditions of the working American the focus of my administration.
