John, Dave Bliler put up a 4’ x 8’ sign on his own private property with three choice words to describe his feelings about the government.
Shortly after Dave put this sign up, Olyphant town officials informed him that he was violating an ordinance and threatened to take him to court and fine him $500 PER DAY.
According to the ordinance, residents can only have one sign on their property.
The sign can’t be larger than six square feet, residents must submit it to the Borough for approval and pay a minimum of $40 fee to erect the sign – plus wait an unspecified and unlimited time for the government to approve the sign permit.
John, this is a First Amendment violation if I’ve ever seen one.
And if that wasn’t enough, the city itself is not subject to the ordinance: they’re free to put up as many signs as they want while residents are subjected to a demanding approval process to erect just one small sign on their own property.
John, this isn’t a homeowners association, it’s the local government – and they have no business telling you what you’re allowed to display on your property.
We’re suing the city of Olyphant on Dave’s behalf and demanding an end to this overreaching, unconstitutional, and unequally applied sign ordinance, and I hope we can count on your generous support.
The greatest threat facing our country today isn’t COVID or climate, as the Left would lead you to believe. It’s government overreach gone wild.
And the longer power drunk elected (and unelected) officials think they have a say in our personal lives, the worse off we’ll all be.
These people work for you and me, not the other way around – and they’re long overdue for a reminder.
There are signs all over Dave’s neighborhood, and by the looks of it, they weren’t permitted, but the town is only coming after the Blilers.
Dave dared criticize the government, and now he has a target on his back.

We had no choice but to take this case, and I hope I can count on your support.
