** Friend,

The unmistakable message has gone out to reporters across the corporate media: If you criticize Israel or express sympathy for the Palestinian cause, you could be fired.

MSNBC canceled The Mehdi Hasan Show despite strong ratings after weeks of hard-hitting reporting challenging the U.S.-backed Israeli assault on Gaza. Other outlets that have sidelined pro-Palestinian voices include the BBC, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Associated Press, and many others.

Meanwhile, the total killed in Gaza is now approaching 20,000, with well over 7,000 children killed. That’s one child killed every 15 minutes for over two months straight.

Common Dreams is one of the few remaining news outlets where journalists are still able to report the facts about the slaughter in Gaza without fear of retribution — and we’re absolutely reliant on reader donations to power our work.

Our End-of-Year Campaign is our most critical fundraising drive of the year, and we absolutely must reach our goal of $100,000 by December 1. Every dollar counts! ([link removed])

The extreme ideological conformity that has gripped so much of the Western news media’s coverage of the assault on Gaza is actively contributing to the ongoing killing of civilians on the ground.

International law experts argue that a genocide is unfolding in Gaza, with 80 percent of the population displaced, hospitals and refugee camps bombed, and food, medicine, fuel, and water cut off.

But across much of the U.S. media, all of this gets whitewashed under the banner of Israel’s unquestionable “right to defend itself.”

No corporate advertiser wants to fund journalism that spells out the hard facts concerning U.S.-backed war crimes in Gaza. That’s why we’ve never taken a dime in corporate advertising — and why it’s so critical that readers support the nonprofit, independent journalism of Common Dreams.
