The longer we wait to take serious action on climate change, the harder it is to solve. New research shows that as carbon dioxide accumulates in the atmosphere, it compounds, and becomes more potent.
The research, published in Science, found that despite the previous belief that the strength of carbon dioxide scaled linearly, it actually accumulates in the atmosphere. This accumulation of CO2 creates a more potent greenhouse gas.
When you double the atmospheric CO2 concentration, the impact of any increase in CO2 goes up by 25%. All of this happens because of how the gas affects the stratosphere. This is alarming research that shows that the longer we wait, the harder it will be to mitigate climate change.
Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
