John — my former colleague Liz Cheney and I don’t always agree on policy. And frankly, if you had told me while her father was vice president that we’d be on the same side of any political issue, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.

But after CBS News’ John Dickerson asked Liz what would happen if Mike Johnson was the Speaker on January 6, 2025, Cheney replied, “He can’t be.”

I have to agree.

Politico headline that reads: Liz Cheney would rather see Democrats win in 2024. She warned of the 'threat' from within her own party.

Cheney is part of a lonely breed of Republicans.

Of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for inciting the January 6 insurrection, only 2 remain in Congress. 147 voted to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Cheney has maintained the courage that virtually all of her fellow Republicans lack — by speaking out against the existential threat to our democracy that Donald Trump and the Republican House majority represent.

Republican primary voters in Wyoming rewarded her honesty last year by replacing her with a QAnon conspiracy theorist in Congress, who told Steve Bannon live on air that Joe Biden is “the most destructive human trafficker in our history” and that my censure is the “least of what he should be subjected to.”

That is the story of the Republican Party leadership all across this country. There is no moderating influence left. It’s why I’ve worked so hard to protect our democracy — with impeachment, on the January 6 Committee, and through this campaign. I’m asking for your help. Can you chip in before our FEC deadline?

Conspiracy theories that were once confined to the deepest, darkest corners of QAnon are now part of the mainstream Republican Party platform and finding their way onto the House Floor. The architect of the GOP House effort to overturn the 2020 election and Trump’s impeachment defense counsel, Mike Johnson is now Speaker. Every conceivable alarm bell is going off.

If anybody has any doubt that Trump would not incite another violent assault on our Capitol, they should look at what he tried to do in the last presidential election that he lost. And they should listen to what Donald Trump says today. He is making it clear again that when he loses, he will contest it. He will argue that it’s rigged and fraudulent. And he will terminate the Constitution if he’s allowed to. He will be a dictator on day one.

When a wannabe dictator shows you who they are, believe them.

I am doing everything I can to hold Trump to account. Many of his biggest enablers serve in the United States Senate, and I’m running to stand up to them too.

Please chip in today before my FEC deadline to help me hold Trump and his acolytes’ feet to the fire — the fate of our democracy depends on us defeating Trump once and for all.
