Dear John,

I believe that for the first time in American history, a US Presidential candidate stands in full solidarity with the Muslim community. I believe that is why our diverse community has been united in its support of Bernie. Attorney General Keith Ellison, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Ilhan Omar, countless Imams, and organizations like the Muslim Caucus of America and ourselves have all voiced our unwavering support for Senator Sanders.

We knew this was going to be a fight from the very beginning. While last Tuesday’s results were not ideal, I believe that winning the nomination is not out of reach. We are down approximately 150 delegates, with over 2,000 left up for grabs. I believe that with your help, we will continue to change what is politically possible, redefine electibility, redefining social responsibility, and re-take a delegate majority in this primary. I believe that, together, we will win!

There are more than 100,000 registerd Muslim Americans in both Florida and Illinois each. There is more than 60,000 registered Muslim Americans in Ohio and more than 30,000 in Arizona. It is clear that this Tuesday, if we turnout, the Muslim American community, could change the outcome of this primary election.

Muslim communities have made a critical difference in helping win primaries in states like Iowa, Nevada, and Washington. Now, it's time to take Florida, Illinois, and Ohio by storm and Get Out The Vote! We will make our community’s voices heard at the voting locations! We're going to the polls early to ensure the safety of our health, and to have significant impact. We’ll avoid the long lines and crowds on March 17!

In light of concerns regarding Coronavirus, and out of an abundance of caution for our volunteers and supporters, we can no longer door-to-door canvasses. We will now shift our efforts towards digital outreach and organizing. This past Friday Bernie addressed the nation and laid out how we must respond to this new health and economic crisis. In his speech, he called for paid sick and family leave for all, making all future Coronavirus vaccines free to all, enacting an immediate moratorium on evictions and utility shutoffs, and more. We strongly encourage you to watch the whole speech, read his transcript here, and then share it on social media.

What you can do to help?

  1. Vote! Find your nearest polling location and get there on Friday or Saturday by 6pm (time varies by location)! To find your polling location, simply type in your address here.

  2. Post! After voting, share your selfie by posting it in our "Muslims for Bernie GOTV in Florida" event on Facebook! Ask your friends and family to post their selfies too!

  3. Call! Phonebank from home to get other voters out to the polls!

Join our Muslims for Bernie movement in Florida, Illinois, Ohio, and Arizona as we show our power in numbers at the polls! Finally, make sure to watch the debate between Bernie and Biden this Sunday at 8pm ET. It will be a historic moment when the entire country fully realizes what's at stake. Bernie is our only chance to defeat Trump and make America a fair, safe, and welcoming place for all. We won't have a second chance. Together, I believe that we will win.

In solidarity,

Mohamed Gula
