Hey folks,
I just wanted to give you all a quick update on where we are in Washington with the coronavirus response.
This Friday, the House passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which will establish free testing for all, provide paid leave for those affected by the virus, protect public health workers, and provide important benefits to children and families.
As the situation develops, we will continue to work with public health experts, healthcare professionals, and community leaders to ensure that we are moving forward with the most effective, evidence-based response possible.
Sadly, we have a president who is actively harming these efforts -- because he’s more concerned with how the virus will affect his re-election odds than the safety of our communities.
From his promotion of false information to his censoring of public officials who contradict him, Trump’s continued efforts to downplay the severity of the situation are dangerous.
In a moment like this, facts need to be front and center. Sign on to call on this administration to lead our nation’s coronavirus response with factual, verified information.
Until the White House gets its act together on testing, we are going to have more cases than we know. We must all be sure to take normal precautions to minimize risk for ourselves and others:
-
Wash your hands regularly
-
Use appropriate social distancing measures
-
Be particularly careful around the most vulnerable (the elderly, the immuno-compromised)
Proactive public health practices can limit and contain the spread of infectious disease.
But in order for American citizens to be best equipped to keep themselves and others safe, we must demand full transparency from our government.
Be safe,
Sean Casten
