National Domestic Workers Alliance
============================
John — my name's Diondre and I'm a care worker in Charlotte, North Carolina, and some of what I've seen with my own eyes still shocks me.
One place I worked in didn't have enough clean linens to change out soiled sheets. One time, they didn’t have wipes, so we had to use rags to clean people. Everything was broken down. It was just so much.
I started saying something because no one should have to accept working in conditions like this, and I didn’t want to put my life in jeopardy rushing around trying to care for all the people they’d assigned me.
About this time is when I got involved with the National Domestic Workers Alliance. That was the best thing because they understood that what I was going through was crazy, and they helped me understand my rights and my power.
I spoke up and things got better for me and for the people I cared for, but John there are millions of care workers still in situations like I was. Can you donate to NDWA to help these care workers, nannies, and housecleaners?

I work for an agency, and I was recently in a new facility being shown around. When we got to the 16th door of a client, I asked how many people I was expected to look after: THIRTY people. Just me looking after THIRTY people!
I told them I wasn't going to accept none of this. I asked them to take me to the nurse supervisor and I told her I couldn't accept the assignment and that this is neglect. I spoke up because NDWA has shown me we can take our power back and we deserve to be respected in our role.
We are the ones who are with clients all the time: we're up close and personal with the individual; caring for them. It's a HARD job and NDWA is the only place I know that really understands this and organizes workers to get what we deserve.
Can you make a donation to help more care workers, nannies, and housecleaners take our power back?

Our ancestors did a whole lot for us to pass the torch, and I want to do a good job to pass the torch too. I want my kids to see that the work I do, and get paid for, is a good job: not that I’m overworked and unstable. We are ‘healthcare professionals' and that’s what NDWA is supporting us to be.
Thank you for your support,
Diondre, Care worker
