Treating drug use as a criminal problem instead of a health issue is not just dehumanizing — it also doesn’t work.
Our country has spent half a century locking up people who use drugs. Over $1 trillion later, we are in the midst of an overdose crisis driven by an unregulated drug supply and there has been no reduction in drug use, availability, supply, or demand.
But I know, you, like me, believe in our collective power to fight back against these dehumanizing policies — and win. We are already making progress with harm reduction measures, decriminalization, community reinvestment, and more.
Our opponents are pushing back. But as DPA's Executive Director, Kassandra Frederique, always says, that backlash is not a result of our failure. It is proof of our success.
Let’s keep fighting, Friend! Join DPA today and take a stand against the powerful politicians and pundits who want to turn back the clock on drug reform.
