Migrant Communities Are not Disposable
"Our current refugee and asylum systems were created in response to the horrific failure of the U.S. ([link removed]) to accept Jewish refugees fleeing the Holocaust, and instead turning them away.
Yet currently, the White House and Senate Democrats are considering mass deportations and destroying asylum access in exchange for passing a funding bill for military aid to Israel and Ukraine, in ongoing negotiations ([link removed]) with Senate Republicans. This deal has the potential to shut out families and people seeking safety through asylum, as well as deport undocumented residents across the United States.
It is utterly dystopian that our elected officials are attempting to trade away the human rights of immigrants in exchange for passing military funding to Israel, which they will use to bomb even more Palestinian civilians."

Asylum is Under Attack - Again
The White House is currently trying to destroy asylum in exchange for sending billions to Ukraine, Israel, and ICE & CBP. This proposal is extreme, and would risk the lives of migrants and their families fleeing danger. This would be especially disastrous for Haitian asylum seekers. Tell your members of Congress that our government should fund solutions that uphold the humanity and dignity of migrants and protect asylum.

Tell Congress: 5 Nonviolent Solutions for Haiti

The violence in Haiti is untenable. Gang violence in Haiti has killed over 1,230 people between July and September of this year alone. In response, the United Nations, with U.S. leadership, has authorized Kenya to deploy troops on the ground, but this will not address the root of the violence. Tell your members of Congress to take these five, concrete steps for peace.

Artist Corner
Refaat Alareer
This week we highlighting the work of Palestinian poet, writer, and professor Refaat Alareer. In 2014 he edited a collection ([link removed]) of short stories by young writers from Gaza. He was also co-founder of "We Are Not Numbers," a non-profit that aimed to uplift the voices of Palestinian youth living in Gaza and refugee camps. Tragically, Alareer was recently killed in an airstrike in Northern Gaza. We remember his legacy in sharing his work.
"O, Earth"
O, Earth
Hug me
And hold me tight
Or devour me
To suffer no more.
I love thee
So take me.
Make me rich.
Make me dirt.
Gone are the days of serenity.
Guns are the words of humanity.
I have no food but a thorn,
No sport but a sigh.
For a soldier needs to feel high.
O, Earth,
If in life I am to hurt
Let my dirt in you give birth.
O, Earth.
