Hi John - For 9 long years, the conflict in Syria has raged on, killing or disrupting the lives of millions of innocent people, including more than 5 million children who have been forced from their homes. These children are often unable to attend school. Many have lived in areas that have been bombed, occupied and besieged. Witnessing horrors no child should see can have a huge impact on their sense of safety and emotional wellbeing. Children are remarkably resilient, but require a return to normalcy for the healing process to begin. That includes being able to return to school and get back to learning in a safe, protected environment. On this 9th anniversary of the start of the conflict in Syria, you have a chance to help make that happen. Send a message today to your members of Congress to support a resolution that condemns attacks on education and calls for perpetrators to be held accountable. Years of conflict have devastated the lives of a generation of kids. Many of Syria’s children have missed years of learning. Currently, 2.1 million children in Syria are out of school. And shockingly, over the past 12 months, Save the Children and partners confirmed 92 attacks in Syria on schools and education facilities. In times of war, school can provide a stabilizing environment that supports not only children’s learning but also their protection, mental health and wellbeing. That is why it is so important that we make sure that we are supporting efforts to help children return to school and ensure that schools remain protected, safe spaces where children can learn and start to heal. On this anniversary day, join me in sending an urgent message to Congress. Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
