King County Metro Route 5 Improvements Study
Route 5 bus boarding the bus next to a bus stop with a bus shelter

Metro, in coordination?with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), is conducting a study to identify improvements along Route 5 that will shorten bus travel times and improve reliability, meaning buses will travel more quickly and arrive on time more often.

*Making improvements will?ensure Route 5 service can better meet current and future ridership needs*

In early 2023,?the project identified proposed improvements at various locations in the study area. The proposed improvements were shared with the community for input in summer 2023 and Metro received many comments through this outreach. Thank you to those who took time to let us know how you would like to improve the service in their neighborhoods.

Over the coming?months, Metro will finalize the project improvements list, prepare initial design drawings (10% design), develop preliminary cost estimates, and publish a final report with recommendations for the next phase of design and community feedback. As the design progresses, there will be more opportunities for community feedback.

The Metro Matters blog [ [link removed] ]?has a brief summary of the outreach conducted and the feedback shared, including a link to the full community engagement report.

Madison Street Area ? Bus Service Change Project Phase 2 Progress Report

The RapidRide G Line is currently planned to open in fall 2024. The G Line project ? originally known as Madison BRT ? was introduced in the 2012 Seattle Transit Master Plan and is now under construction in partnership with the?Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) [ [link removed] ].

The new RapidRide?G Line will be an entirely new route in our transit system. This means Metro will need to make changes to bus routes on Capitol Hill, Central District, First Hill and Madison Valley bus routes in order to:

* Reduce repetition of?transit service along the East Madison St corridor.
* Support street/roadway changes?created through the RapidRide G Line Project.
* Improve transfer opportunities?between transit services.
* Improve transit connections?between important destinations.
* Provide partial funding?for service operations on the RapidRide G Line.
