Happy Holidays!

The Holidays are here for LA Unified! This week, students and teachers raced to the semester’s finish line with last minute lessons and with an abundance of joy–singing, dancing, decorating, and celebrating. I’m so grateful to be a part of these festivities and to support Board District 4 schools in their efforts.

As the year winds down, the Board continues our work. At this week’s meeting we approved over $60 million to improve school facilities, a new group of partners for social and emotional learning support, a grant to expand career technical education pathways, and more. And as we grapple with complicated budget decisions in the months to come, I will continue to push to ensure that the needs of our students always come first.

Happy Holidays and Cheers to 2024!

In gratitude,

In the Community: The Latest from Board District 4
Over the past few weeks, my team and I were thrilled to celebrate Venice's Sign Lighting, Community in Schools reading with CAA at Mark Twain MS, Region West and Region North Principal Meetings, West Hollywood ES Computer Science Showcase, Inclusive Schools Week at Mosk ES, Venice HS Jackets of Excellence, and Pacific Palisades Citizen of the Year. We also attended festive, multicultural, and multilingual holiday events at Melrose ES, Topanga ES, Nestle ES, Brentwood ES, Westwood ES, Wilbur ES, Nora Sterry ES, Braddock ES, Kentwood ES, and Paseo del Rey ES! It's always a joy to witness our diverse school communities celebrate the richness of their cultural traditions!
In the Spotlight: Giving thanks for one of our hardworking SAA workers!
We are thankful for the hard work of all our school employees, including Westside Global Awareness Magnet School's Administrative Assistant (SAA), Luz Sanchez! Luz’s parents are from Sinaloa, Mexico and she was born in Long Beach, California. Before receiving her BA in Sociology from CSUDH, Luz was a student in LAUSD from Kindergarten to 12th grade. She has been working within LAUSD since she was fifteen years old! Before being an SAA, Luz was a student worker, teacher assistant, and senior office tech. Outside of school, Luz enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, and watching movies.
