Governor Walz Highlights Resources Available to Help Minnesotans with Heating Costs


Governor Walz speaks to press about ways Minnesota is reducing utility costs.

On Monday, Governor Walz held an event highlighting resources available to help Minnesotans afford their heating costs this holiday season. Governor Walz was joined by?Minnesota Department of Commerce?Commissioner Grace Arnold.

"As we continue working to lower costs and make life easier for Minnesotans, I'm proud our Energy Assistance Program can provide families with up to $1,400 - helping renters and homeowners afford their utility bills,"?said Governor Walz.

"With over 50,000 households already being helped by our Energy Assistance Program, we're working to make life a little easier for families this holiday season,"?said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.?


Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Announce $350 Million for Affordable Housing Development

On Friday Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, and Minnesota Housing announced nearly $350 million to preserve and build over 4,700 units of housing across Minnesota. With over $1 billion in housing investments signed into law by Governor Walz this year, this is the largest slate of development projects Minnesota Housing has ever approved.

?As one of the most basic human needs, housing provides a foundation for safety, stability, and economic growth,? said Governor Tim Walz. ?Through this historic slate of development projects, we?re increasing the availability of affordable housing and investing in a better future for Minnesotans.?

?We?re taking important steps to expand and preserve affordable housing, make homeownership a reality for more Minnesotans, and ensure Minnesota housing meets the needs of families across the state,? said Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan. ?The project selections announced today will soon become safe, stable homes thousands of children will grow up in. Their futures will be brighter because of what we accomplished together.??

Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Attends 39th Annual Homeless Memorial in Minneapolis

On Thursday, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan delivered remarks at the 39th Annual Homeless Memorial in Minneapolis and participated in a march honoring those who have died while homeless in 2023.

"This year, we made historic investments to combat homelessness and expand access to affordable housing. Our work is not over until every Minnesotan has a safe, stable, and warm place to call home,"?said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.?"Tonight, we remembered and honored those who died while homeless, those who had experienced homelessness but have since had found a place to call home, and those who spend their days and years working to end the injustice of homelessness."


Governor Walz Celebrates President Biden?s Tax Credits for Sustainable Aviation Fuels


On Friday, Governor Walz celebrated the news that sustainable aviation fuels will now qualify for tax credits under President Joe Biden?s Inflation Reduction Act. With a nation-leading sustainable aviation fuel tax credit, Governor Walz has led efforts to grow the sustainable aviation fuels industry in Minnesota.

?Sustainable aviation fuels will help us meet our climate goals, support our crop-based biofuels sector, and grow our economy,? said Governor Walz. ?President Biden?s new tax credit is fantastic news for farmers and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to this growing industry. By supporting the production and supply of sustainable fuels, we?re reducing our carbon footprint, supporting rural communities, and creating good-paying jobs across the country.?


Governor Walz Secures $25 Million for Highway 210 Project in Brainerd


On Tuesday, Governor Tim Walz and the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced that they have secured $25 million in federal funds for improvements to?Highway 210 in Brainerd.

?Our roads and bridges power our economy,? said Governor Walz. ?Minnesotans who live and do business along this corridor know that this road requires significant safety and structural improvements. I?m grateful for the federal government?s partnership as we work to improve roads, bridges, and transportation all across our state.?
