Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes 'NO' to Reauthorize FISA with No Meaningful Reforms Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes 'YES' to Pass Resolution to Continue Impeachment Inquiry into President Joe Biden Joe Biden is the most corrupt President in American history and has repeatedly lied to the American people. He has told the American people that he never spoke to his son about his family's business dealings. He also said his family never made money from China. These are blatant lies. House Republicans have identified: 20 shell companies- most of which were created when Joe Biden was Vice President. The Biden Family and their associates brought in over $24 million from China, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Romania from 2015-2019. Joe Biden spoke to Hunter Biden, his son, and associates over 20 times on speakerphone. As Vice President, Joe Biden was allegedly involved in a $5 million extortion and bribery scheme with a Burisma executive. Joe Biden's Delaware home address was listed as the beneficiary address for two wires from China totaling $250,000. Joe Biden received $200,000 directly funneled from China. Joe Biden also received $40,000 in laundered China money through Hunter. Joe Biden used aliases in tens of thousands of emails. Joe Biden must be held accountable for his lies and corruption. Congress has the responsibility to provide accountability and transparency that the American people deserve. That is exactly why I voted 'YES', and the House passed H.Res.918, which formally opens an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden. Joe Biden and the White House have stonewalled investigations from the very beginning. The American people deserve answers, and I look forward to exposing the truth. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Attends House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit to Conduct Oversight on the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act This week, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit held a hearing on oversight of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) with the heads of the Department of Transportation’s modal administrators. During the hearing, I questioned the Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Robin Hutcheson, about the agency’s proposed regulation to mandate speed limiters on trucks, which I strongly oppose. I emphasized that a fair and open rulemaking process must be followed and that it was a mistake for the Administrator to attend a high-dollar soiree with supporters of the speed limiter mandate while the agency was promulgating the rule. I also spoke about the lack of bathroom access for truckers while on the job, and my bipartisan bill, the Trucker Bathroom Access Act, to address the issue. I was pleased to hear the Administrator indicate her support of the principles in this legislation. As a member of the T&I Committee, I will continue to fight for American truckers, who I believe are the backbone of this nation. Watch my remarks from the hearing HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes 'YES' to Pass the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act The United States House of Representatives passed the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act, which would provide patients with accurate and timely information about the cost of important health care procedures and services. Specifically, this legislation would increase price transparency throughout the health care system for patients, address the cost of prescription drugs, and provide support for patients, health care workers, community health centers, and hospitals. For far too long, people across the country have struggled to afford the cost of care. I proudly supported this legislation to lower health care costs for millions of Americans and empower patients. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Speaks at House Judiciary Subcommittee Crime Hearing on Women's Second Amendment Rights This week, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance held a hearing titled “Second Amendment Rights Empower Women’s Rights.” With the rise in violent crime across the country, particularly in Democrat-run states and cities, it is not surprising that women are purchasing firearms for self-defense. In the hearing, I discussed an incident that occurred in June 2023 at a gas station in Houston, in which a nine-month pregnant woman used her legally concealed firearm to defend herself and her husband against a potential robber. Had this woman not legally owned and used a firearm, her situation would have ended very differently. I believe this is a perfect example of what responsible gun ownership looks like. She defended her husband’s life and the life of her unborn child. Yet, Democrats want to strip her of her right to do so by passing more gun control legislation. Criminals will still have guns long after law-abiding citizens don’t. The Second Amendment empowers women and assists individuals when it comes to self-defense. However, the Biden Administration continues to engage in various practices that seek to undermine the Second Amendment rights of Americans across the country. I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, and I will continue to protect the right to bear arms. I am honored to be at the forefront of efforts to secure firearm ownership. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes 'NO' to Reauthorize FISA With No Reforms The United States House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act for the Fiscal Year 2024, which reauthorizes Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), with no meaningful reforms. Section 702 was intended to allow the federal government to conduct targeted surveillance of foreign nationals outside of the United States, and instead, it has been abused by the FBI to spy on innocent American citizens. This is absolutely unacceptable. I voted 'NO' on this legislation. We cannot continue to allow federal agencies to abuse the Fourth Amendment rights of the American people. Chairman Nehls Leads Bipartisan Letter to Biden's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency As the Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials, I led a bipartisan letter, along with my colleague Ranking Member Donald Payne, Jr., to the Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Jen Easterly, regarding recent reporting that suggests hackers affiliated with a Chinese state-sponsored threat actor possibly infiltrated at least two dozen critical transportation infrastructure entities in the last year alone. I view these findings as incredibly concerning and a blatant attempt to preposition capabilities that could ultimately disrupt our nation's energy security, supply chains, and transportation systems, all the while jeopardizing our ability to swiftly execute critical national security missions. China is one of our nation’s greatest foreign adversaries that we must continue to address head on. I am proud to have led this letter to CISA to ensure that the appropriate measures are taken to protect our country from cyberattacks on our nation’s most critical transportation systems and energy infrastructure.
