first up, our Public Advocate

Hello Friend,

First, thanks to everyone for making an incredible two day call relay possible! This is exactly how we want to bring the fight for the NY HEAT Act into the coming year: together.

Second, have you heard this brilliant debunking of the loopholes and scams in New York utility gas plans? It's by AGREE’s Public Advocate, Ben Kuebrich, who joined us this year to help us continue watchdogging the corporate utilities and fossil fuel industry in New York.

Here’s what he had to share about why we do the regulatory work that we do:

"At AGREE, I get to connect two really important areas of the climate movement’s work. On one side there are the state regulators at the Public Service Commission. They are responsible for implementing the 2019 Climate Act through utility proceedings, and it is our job to make sure they are interpreting and applying the law correctly. As climate advocates, we counter the influence of the utility corporations in this arena.

"But I also work to connect this more technical and tedious work to the organizations and communities who were responsible for pushing forward the 2019 Climate Act in the first place. It is so important that we continue our work marching, rallying, and showing up at the Public Service Commission to hold them accountable for the future we all deserve. AGREE helps to keep the nitty-gritty policy work linked to the people taking action in the streets, the people overwhelmed with utility bills, and the people on the front lines of the climate crisis."

Well said! Which bring us to a reminder: to keep connecting fine print policy to front line organizing, we're holding a year-end fundraiser. And thanks to all of you, we're now just $1253 away from goal!

Every dollar will help is stay independent and keep doing the work we do. If you can, will you help sustain AGREE for a sustainable future?

Also keep an eye out: we'll keep sharing staff stories through the year on our Facebook and Instagram. Please give us a follow if you haven't!

More actions to come soon!
