This week, I introduced legislation that would allow surviving family members of the victims of the 1988 terrorist attack on Pan Am Flight 103 to access court proceedings of the alleged bombmaker. Of the 270 victims that died in this attack above Lockerbie, Scotland, 190 were Americans, and 38 were from New Jersey.
Given the advanced age of many of the surviving family members and the fact that many reside in other countries, traveling to DC to attend the trial proceedings is not feasible. Ensuring that they can utilize remote video and telephonic access will allow them to be a part of the process in finally holding the man accountable who took so many innocent lives.
This bill has already passed unanimously through the Senate, and I will be working hard to move this bill to the House floor as soon as possible so that it can be sent to the president's desk.
