Kate Cox's heartbreaking situation has brought to light the harsh consequences of stringent abortion restrictions. Despite facing a pregnancy with a fatal syndrome that endangers her health and life, Kate was forced to leave the state to receive the health care she needs due to Texas’ extreme laws .
This case underscores the critical need for comprehensive national legislation that protects women's rights to make decisions about their own bodies and ensures access to safe and legal abortion care . The stark reality is that promises made by some Republicans to allow exceptions for women's health are falling short, leaving countless women like Kate in distressing circumstances.
I want you to know that I am committed to advocating for reproductive freedom, so that every individual has the ability to make decisions about their own reproductive health, as is their right.
As the recipient of the Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic Impact Award, I am proud that I have stood up for access to reproductive care and for empowering individuals to make choices about their bodies.
Since 1997, I have been a part of the PPHP community, advocating for sexual and reproductive health care to be available to all.
