Dear Friend,
One year ago, white nationalist hate killed 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. Even in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, let us take a moment to honor the victims and to recommit to ending the hate violence that took their lives.
Hello, brother.
Those were Haji-Daoud Nabi’s last words as he welcomed visitors to the Al Noor mosque. Moments later, a white nationalist gunman took Nabi’s life and the lives of 50 other parents, siblings and children. Muslims across the world felt our sense of safety shatter.
Hello, sister.
We’ve heard those words before. They embody the spirit of care and hospitality that define Muslim communities — and all religious communities — at their best. For years, though, white nationalism has violently threatened Black churches, synagogues, gurdwaras and mosques with arson, vandalism, bombings and mass shootings. White nationalist militias are organizing these attacks using tech platforms like Facebook, which hosted a live-stream of the Christchurch massacre. Law enforcement, intelligence agencies and tech platforms have failed, over and over again, to prioritize the global threat of white nationalist violence.
Hello, friend.
As the reach, coordination, and aggression of white nationalism grows, we remain as committed as ever to eradicating this violent form of hate. Together, we will fight for our lives, for your lives, until all of us can live free of fear.
All of my best wishes for you and your family at this challenging time.
