John,

We’re always keeping an eye out for new threats to the Voting Rights Act -- and there is another one snaking its way through the system. Another one just popped up.

While affirming a challenge to biased maps in Galveston, Texas, a panel from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals called for the entire court to reconsider and potentially overturn precedent that helps ensure districts can be created where minority communities can together elect their candidates of choice. And now the full court, which has recently issued several conservative opinions, will take the case, signaling it may reverse itself on this critical issue.

Fights like these are essential to ensuring fair and equal representation for Black and Latino voters in the elections that determine their future.

With a critical election year just around the corner, All On The Line is keeping our finger on the pulse of threats to voting rights anywhere -- we will organize wherever needed so voters can make their voices heard. We want to know if you’re ready to fight alongside us: When the time comes to take action for fair maps in 2024 and beyond, can we count on you to join in? >> [link removed]

Yes, I will! >> [link removed]

This is hardly the first time Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act has landed on the chopping block.

Just weeks ago, another court ruled that only the U.S. government -- not individuals or public-interest groups -- could sue to enforce Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. That would shift most of the authority to whoever’s in the White House and make it harder to hold lawmakers accountable for trying to silence voters’ voices.

We’ll keep doing everything we can to ensure fairness and justice in our democracy -- but we can’t do it alone. As we gear up to address the many challenges ahead, we need to know we have the full force of this dedicated community behind us.

Pledge to take action to protect the fair maps and continue the momentum of our movement. → [link removed]
