In this week's roundup: My Honoring Police Officer and K9 Service Act, my support of the National Defense Authorization Act, and my work to secure our border. Dear Friend, In this week's roundup: My Honoring Police Officer and K9 Service Act, my support of the National Defense Authorization Act, and my work to secure our border. That and more – remember to follow my Facebook page by clicking here and my Twitter page by clicking here to stay up-to-date throughout the week! OUR POLICE OFFICERS AND THEIR K9 PARTNERS ARE HEROES WHO PROTECT OUR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES Our police and law enforcement officers make incredible sacrifices to protect our communities and undertake many responsibilities out of the public eye. That includes caring for police K9s – which assist officers in seizing drugs, tracking missing people, and detaining criminals – during their service and after their retirement. In my conversations with police and sheriff’s departments across the 4th Congressional District, officers themselves often cover the expenses associated with veterinary visits and other costs. That’s why I introduced the Honoring Police Officer and K9 Service Act to help our police cover the costs of maintaining K9s in their departments and ensure that police dogs receive the quality care and treatment that they deserve after a lifetime of service. Rep. Feenstra introduces K-9 legislation But what happens to those K-9 units when they retire? New proposed legislation could help those dogs when their working days are done. WE MUST SECURE OUR BORDER We now know that, on average, 5,000 illegal immigrants are being released into our communities every day, and 670,000 evaded capture by border patrol last fiscal year. House Republicans passed our Secure the Border Act to end this lawlessness, protect our families, and prioritize our national security. We must finish the wall and secure our border. 5,000 illegal immigrants released every day into US,... That oath includes my unwavering commitment to our men and women in uniform who are willing to sacrifice their lives to protect our families and defend our freedoms. Upholding my commitment to our troops, I voted for the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This legislation fully funds the deployment of the U.S. National Guard to help secure our southern border, allows states to use materials rusting at the border for construction of the wall, and delivers the largest pay raise – a 5.2% increase – for our troops in over twenty years. It also includes language from my Defend America’s Rural Energy Act, which bans China from buying American farmland suitable for homegrown Iowa ethanol and biodiesel production.
