His family fled the dangers of communism at the time in Romania to seek freedom and build a new life here in America. Ben is a small business owner and real estate broker, served on the Peoria City Council, and was appointed to the Arizona State House of Representatives in 2017. In 2018, Toma was elected in his own right and was quickly elevated to leadership roles by his peers. In the legislature, Toma authored and passed two landmark pieces of conservative legislation that were labeled “impossible” by both friend and foe. First was the historic “flat tax” law bringing economic relief to working families and small businesses; to date, this was the single largest tax cut in Arizona’s history. Second, he was the author of, and instrumental in passing, the “biggest school choice victory in U.S. history” better known as universal Empowerment Scholarship Accounts.
